 Appendix 3 - Novell Software Infrastructure Costs - Phase 1 to 5

2000 - 2001: Limited implementation in ITS managed areas:

Total cost: $71,040 for first 12 months

At last count the total number of NT desktops managed by ITS directly was approximately 300 machines. Given the rapid rate of takeup of the lease scheme this could be expected to grow by 50-100% over the next 12 months, so we will estimate on the basis of 500 licences, licensed on a per workstation basis. The annual cost is $52.08 per workstation, which could easily be built into the lease scheme costs for future agreements. The initial cost would be $26,040 for the licences (this is the annual fee), plus $45,000 for a Novell ENA (Enterprise Network Architect) which would be a one off cost in setting up a structure suitable for future expansion. Hardware costs are shown in appendix 1.

2001 - 2002: Wider implementation in cooperation with non-ITS areas

Total cost: $52,080 per annum

Stage 1 (above) would be already implemented, but the additional areas would probably add a further 500 workstations, taking the total to 1000 workstation licences (estimated). Software and setup cost for implementing this option would be $52,080 (annually) plus hardware costs (already covered).

2002 - 2003: University-wide implementation of NDS

Total cost: $107,600 per annum.

Across the entire university it would be more economical to license NDS on a per FTE basis rather than per workstation. Based on a FTE of 10,000 (the figure we use with Oracle site licensing) annual licensing would cost $107,600.
