TREN-Connect - Tasmanian Research and Education Network Connection Project

The TREN-Connect project has been in progress since 2003 and is a key component of the University's telecommunications strategy for the next 10 to 15 years.

Project goals

The ultimate goals of the project are to:

• provide very high bandwidth fibre services to locations within Tasmania
• facilitate future connection to the Australian Research and Education Network

Major Tasks

• Establish interim bandwidth of 310 megabits per second to the AARNet node in Hobart.
• Establish connection to the AARNet3 research network.
• Establish fibre connections to CBD connection points in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie.
