High Performance Computing Centre

The UTAS High Performance Computing centre offers a range of opportunities for collaborative computing, application hosting and data processing for researchers and commercial entities.

Current Programs

A number of programs are currently supported by the High Performance Computing centre including :

Facilities

High performance computing activities at UTAS currently centre on the SGI Altix 3700 supercomputer housed within ITR's central machine room in Hobart.

System

The Altix 3700 currently offers 32 Itanium 2 (1.3 GHz) processors, 64 GB main memory and 3.1 TB of disk storage.  Further mass storage is provided by a StorTek L700 LTO2 robotic silo with a storage capacity of 20 TB.

Software Suite

The following software suite is available.

  • CFX (fluid dynamics)
  • Gaussian (computational chemistry)
  • Octave and R (mathematical)
  • Intel C and Fortran compilers
  • NetCDF libraries
  • IDL
